Project Overview

The Oppidan Data Center was designed as a single-story, 98,695-square-foot facility. Vaughn Industries was awarded the contract for Phase 1 of the project, covering 29,680 square feet. Our team was responsible for the HVAC and plumbing scope, ensuring optimal climate control and ventilation for this critical infrastructure.

Mechanical Installation

Our skilled professionals executed a complex mechanical installation that included:

  • Roof Equipment:
    • Installation of (3) AAON 5-ton rooftop units
    • (14) PennBarry Low Profile Upblast Propeller Exhaust fans, transferring an impressive 44,700 CFM of air out of the building
    • (6) Stultz roof-mounted condensing units to cool the main electrical room and battery backup room
    • Over 70 equipment curbs installed for future roof-mounted units
  • Inside the Mechanical Room:
    • (5) custom BASX Air Handling Units, each supplying 89,500 CFM of air, totaling 447,500 CFM dedicated to the 7,592-square-foot data hall
    • The main duct header measured 6.5 feet wide by over 8 feet tall, connecting all five BASX units
    • The average duct size for the data hall was a massive 8 feet wide by 7 feet tall

Plumbing & Water Systems

  • Installation of (2) 50,947-gallon water storage tanks (each measuring 21 feet wide by 21 feet tall) to provide domestic water for cooling the BASX units
  • Integration of (10) exterior louvers, each 25 feet wide by 18 feet tall, to regulate outside air intake

Material & Workforce Accomplishments

The sheer scale of this project demanded expert craftsmanship and significant resources, including:

  • Over 14,000 feet (2.6 miles) of large Ductmate frame
  • Approximately 1,872 Ductmate corners
  • Over 40,000 lbs of 18-gauge galvanized sheet metal to fabricate ductwork for the data hall alone

A Team Effort

From the first layout to the final installation, this project showcased the expertise and dedication of our field employees to project managers, and everyone in-between! The complexity of the mechanical and plumbing systems required precise coordination, problem-solving, and a deep commitment to quality. Our team navigated the challenges of a phased construction schedule, ensuring every component was installed efficiently and to the highest standards. The success of Phase 1 is a direct reflection of the talent, skill, and teamwork that define Vaughn Industries.
